Michael Hanley

Michael Hanley was a career intelligence officer who joined MI5 in 1948 and became its director general in 1972. According to one commentator, Hanley made ‘domestic subversion’ the Security Service’s main priority on his watch. 

Hanley’s name appears on Inquiry documents relating to the Subversion in Public Life Committee.
