Overview

Rehabilitation of Offenders Act

This day hearing in the Undercover Policing Inquiry was convened to discuss concerns relating to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

As part of the risk assessment process for undercovers and their managers seeking anonymity, the threat posed by former targets was examined and partially based on their criminal convictions.

The non-state core participants raised the legal point whether consideration of spent convictions breached the Act. For more see under the topic page.

The hearing was immediately followed by a two day hearing on restriction orders.
