Overview

The Black Defence Committee was set up by Tariq Ali and others and based in the offices of the International Marxist Group. 

Planned to be a militant group to counter racist and fascist activities, its initial march, on 31 October 1970, was in support of Black Power activists, the Mangrove Nine. There is limited reporting on the group by HN345 'Peter Fredericks', HN340 'Andy Bailey and HN338.
