Overview

The Movement for Colonial Freedom was founded in the UK in 1954. In 1970 it changed its name to 'Liberation', under which title it is still active.

Set up to campaign against imperialism, segregation and racial discrimination in Britain as well as abroad, it promoted colonial independence and advocated for human rights and global justice. The organisation gets a brief mention in Inquiry disclosure in connection witth a mooted prosecution of the IMG magazine Black Dwarf.

In 1974, it was one of the groups which organised the counter-NF demonstration at Red Lion Square, where Kevin Gately died.
