Jane Birdwood was a right-wing spokeswoman and Holocaust denier, with ties to racist and anti-union organisations including the National Front, the British National Party, the World Anti-Communist League and the Immigration Control Association.
In September 1968, after Birdwood raised public-order concerns with the Metropolitan Police about the London anti-Vietnam war demonstration planned for 27 October, senior SDS officers visited her home to assuage her fears.
The SDS officers reported that Birdwood was ‘politically well-informed’. The visit to Birdwood is covered in more detail in HN333 Cameron Sinclair’s profile.
In 1994 Birdwood was prosecuted for distributing antisemitic literature.
