Maurice Buck
Overview

Maurice Buck was chief constable of Northamptonshire from 1981-1986, having been assistant chief constable for the West Midlands at the time of the 1976 Birmingham pub bombings. 

Buck oversaw the police investigation into the IRA pub bombings that led to the trial and convictions of the so-called Birmingham Six – one of the UK’s most notorious miscarriages of justice. As chief constable, Buck was one of the senior police managers who discussed Special Branch Guidelines in 1981. He retired from the Police Staff College in 1986 and died in 2024.
