The third set of evidential hearings in the Undercover Policing Inquiry took place in May 2022. The hearings focused on the managers of the unit, though there was evidence from a non-state core participant, Lindsey German. The hearings also disclosed material relating to Modules 2(b) and (c) which looked at senior police managers, the handling of undercover intelligence and the involvement of other government bodies with connections to the Special Demonstration Squad (SDS).
As with the previous two evidential hearings, they began with brief opening statements, before being followed by the live testimony of both former undercovers and non-state witnesses. The evidence of SDS undercover officers continued to be broadcast only via a rolling transcript, whereas non-police witnesses chose to participate with a full public broadcast.
The venue continued to be the Amba Hotel (now called the Thistle Marble Arch Hotel) in central London.
